Winners of the SCASM 74th Annual Meeting Student Poster Competition are:

James Wong, University of California Riverside, PhD Level Award

Abel Sanchez, Cal State San Bernardino, Masters Level Award

Alyssa Jimenez, San Diego State University, Undergraduate Award

Joane Kay Tiongson, Loma Linda University, Undergraduate Award

The above winners won a trip to the 2011 ASM meeting in New Orleans and will present their posters.  Two of the educational grants were funded by bioMerieux, Inc. and two were funded by the SCASM chapter. 

Honorable mention winners received a student membership to ASM and they were:

Narine Arabyan, Cal State Northridge

Tommy Nguyen, Loyola Marymount University

Michael Onofre, Loyola Marymount University

Jillian Drake, Fallbrook High School, won first place in the San Diego Co Science Fair  and also presented her poster at the SCASM meeting.  She was awarded a student membership to ASM by the SCASM chapter.

SCASM is pleased to provide a forum to support the students’ research to encourage them to pursue a career in the sciences.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to the 2010 Greater San Diego Science Fair Winners!

The following students were recognized by SCASM for their experimental work in the area of microbiology. SCASM judges were Steve Brantano and Megan Fullerton.

How to Qualify?
1. Present poster on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the SCASM meeting
2. Top poster in the undergraduate, master's and PhD level will win an travel grant of up to $1800 to cover expenses to attend the national ASM meeting in San Francisco, CA.

Benefits:
1.  Attend SCASM sessions on Sat. Nov. 5
2.  Attend national ASM meeting for education, networking and career exploration

Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to submit poster presentations for the 2011 SCASM by utilizing the abstract form obtained from this link: Abstract Form.  Deadline is October 15, 2011.
